Hi! My name is Maddy, and I am an artist and sculptor and crafter and animator. I love to do lots and lots of different projects. The best description would be that I'm a sculptor, because what I make are Chibis. And I sculpt them in various mediums. Polymer Clay, Fabric, Felt, Paper, and even Electronically Sculpt them on the computer. There's no denying I'm obsessed with my little critters, and I make no apologies for that, because it's these little ones that keep me on track, reminding me to be kind, laugh as much as possible, play whenever I can, and to try with all my heart to have those that I meet feel the same feelings.
In 2005, I officially decided that I was going to do all my sculpting with a goal in mind of sculpting completely for my own happiness, and the believe that the happiness would spill out into my work for others to share.
When I started my Chibis From Kiki Valley theme, I realized that I wasn't the only person who had a childhood that was cut short. I decided that chibis would be made for adults, not children. They would exude love and innocence. None of my stories would have a dark side. No worries, no unhappiness, all with safety and love.
As I sculpt, I keep these feeling in mind at all times. I am constantly trying to find new ways to force my collectors to play with their items. I will make little sculptures that sit on a base but are not attached, with additional accessories. And as the collector is “rearranging” their collection, they are actually playing, coming up with little stories of simplicity in their mind as they move this Pippo here, and this Snoogie over here.
I name all my items with names that are fun to say. I will say them out loud with variations until I find the perfect word that is a little unusual to say, but feels like fun coming out of the mouth.
When I make accessories, I try to make them as “play-withable” as possible. Bicycles will have wheels that move and petals that work. etc.
I don't really consider myself an artist. I feel more like I am a missionary for childhood innocence. I feel like the harshness of this world has taken a very special gift from so many adults. And I'm trying to give that gift back to them.
The Story ~ Where It Began
My Friend Schammy

She's small like a flower
and Rosebud's her name.
Play in the garden
is her favoritest game.
She buries a wish
in a hole...not too deep.
When out from the green
comes a small little peep.

A wee tiny jar and a
big dragonfly,
among all the lilies soon
caught her eye.
“My name is Schammy, I have
a present for you, Keep it
close and you'll know what to do.”

Schammy vanished and
Summer did too.
Winter arrived so bright
and brand new.
She held to her jar with the pretty
orange glow, biding her time making
friends out of snow.

The snow slowly melted, and
spring flowers arrived
and as promised did Schammy,
with a gleam in his eyes.
I “ gave you the jar and I hope
you will see
what I need you to do.
Please come with me.”
So she got on her swing as the ladybugs came, and up to the sky,
they were one and the same.

“To Kiki Valley we go” as they flew right on track,
high through the sky, and she never looked back.
